Midwives with an endorsement for scheduled medicines are endorsed as qualified to prescribe schedule 2, 3, 4 and 8 medicines required for midwifery practice across pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal care, in accordance with relevant State and Territory legislation.
Once endorsed, midwives can apply for access to PBS and obtain a prescription pad or stationary for use as the mechanism for prescribing in the community. Where prescribing occurs for inpatients, this happens by way of the National Inpatient Medication Chart.
