Pre-Conference Education Day

Friday, October 11, 2024

Join us for a day filled with a vast array of education opportunities! There are sessions aimed at endorsed midwives working across a broad scope of practice. Sessions held during pre-conference education day will enable midwives to tick off their mandatory competencies – basic life support and neonatal resus training. There will also be other sessions if you do not need these updates.

Cost

  • 2 Sessions – $220 for the whole day
  • 1 Session Only – $130 for half day

Note: Lunch is not included, but there are numerous options around the venue.

What sessions can be attended?

BLS and NLS

Attend this session to achieve your mandatory competency requirement. This session will focus on real-life scenarios facing Endorsed Midwives, not just another community BLS update. The newborn life support will cover the required updates but will also strongly focus on when Endorsed Midwives may be needed to step in and support a newborn (think birth but also in the postnatal period).

Midwifery Emergencies

The SA Privately Practising Midwives team will facilitate a half-day, interactive, hands-on workshop focusing on managing some of the main emergencies faced by those who provide care in the community. The scenarios will be homebirth-centred, but all midwives are welcome.

There will be opportunities to act out scenarios in small groups, supported by midwifery facilitators. There will also be time for debriefing.

Intro to private practice and mentoring

Join Dr Mel Jackson for a workshop on stepping into private practice as an endorsed midwife (wherever you are on that journey, all are welcome).

Mel will also discuss how mentoring can look within the world of Endorsed Midwives, being a mentor to others, approaching someone to be your mentor and that ongoing relationship.

Participants can select two of the three sessions to complete for a full day of training or one session that will run for half a day.
